Akwa Ibom gov Eno sacks all commissioners

After 19 months in office, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has dismissed all members of the cabinet he inherited from his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel.

The governor announced the move as part of efforts to usher in a new phase for his administration.

Former Governor Emmanuel had recommended that his cabinet remain in place after his tenure ended on May 29, 2023, to ensure a smooth transition and stabilize the incoming government.

At a valedictory State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held at the Government House in Uyo, Governor Eno expressed gratitude to the outgoing commissioners and other cabinet members. He praised their contributions to advancing the ARISE Agenda, a key developmental blueprint of his administration.

He stated,

“For me, if you were to be changed based on non-performance, I think none of the commissioners would go, because all of you have delivered, and that’s why the ARISE Agenda has succeeded.”

Despite their contributions, Eno emphasized the need for change, adding, “We must come to the end of a season, start another season, and keep moving.” He also encouraged the former officials to continue being positive representatives of the state and government in their future endeavors.

The governor is expected to submit a list of new nominees for commissioner and special adviser roles to the State House of Assembly after consultations with state elders, leaders, and stakeholders.
