Akwa Ibom declares Friday work-free day to honour late First Lady

The Akwa Ibom State Government has declared Friday, November 29, 2024, a work-free day to pay tribute to the late First Lady, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno.

The announcement, made by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, on Wednesday, November 27, aims to give residents an opportunity to attend her obsequies in her hometown, Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.

Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno, who passed away on September 26, 2024, at the age of 57 after a brief illness, was highly regarded for her compassion and dedication to humanitarian causes.

Through her pet project, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), she championed efforts to tackle societal challenges and uplift the underprivileged.

Her legacy of selflessness and service has left a lasting impact on the people of Akwa Ibom State, with many mourning the loss of a true advocate for positive change.

In a statement, Prince Uwah said,

“Further to the final home-going programme of our departed First Lady, Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Government in consultation with the bereaved family has declared Friday, 29th November 2024 Work-Free Day in honour of our dear mother.”

He added,

“This is to enable Akwaibomites and other residents to pay their last respects to our mother at her obsequies in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area on that day.”
