
The abductors of retired Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga, a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), have demanded a ransom of ₦250 million for his release.
The abduction occurred on Wednesday night in Katsina State when heavily armed assailants stormed General Tsiga’s residence.
Witnesses recounted that the attackers surrounded the property and forcefully broke down doors, prompting the retired general to confront them. He was subsequently taken away alongside several other residents.
Sources close to the family confirmed that the abductors made contact with relatives to deliver their ransom demand. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the situation.
Confirming the abduction, Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, a federal lawmaker representing Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency, stated that the gunmen overpowered those present before whisking General Tsiga away.
In response to the incident, security forces have launched an operation to locate the kidnappers and ensure the safe return of the retired military officer. Despite these efforts, no official update has been provided by security agencies regarding their progress.
A source close to the family, speaking anonymously to Daily Trust on Friday, revealed that the kidnappers had made contact with the family, demanding N250 million as ransom for General Tsiga’s release.
